Townsend and collaborators win a best paper prize

Professor Alex Townsend, together with Dr. Nicolas Boullé (University of Cambridge), won the SIAM Activity Group on Linear Algebra Best Paper Prize for their manuscript "Learning Elliptic Partial Differential Equations with Randomized Linear Algebra" in Foundations of Computational Mathematics, 2022. The paper extends the classical randomized singular value decomposition to infinite dimensions and shows how to use such techniques to answer important questions on learning solution operators associated with elliptic PDEs. For more information, see the details of the prize here

The SIAM Activity Group on Linear Algebra Best Paper Prize (SIAG/LA Best Paper Prize) is awarded every three years to the author(s) of the most outstanding paper, as determined by the selection committee, on a topic in applicable linear algebra in the four calendar years preceding the award year.
